I follow most of Dr. Harris' 12 steps:

http://www.paleonu.com/get-started/

Following these recommendations has brought me improved health, easy maintenance of a slender weight, and a calm, poised disposition. I still eat butter, ghee, and heavy cream at this point, but do not find them problematic.

----

Here is Dr. Harris' summary of PaleoNu way of eating:

http://www.paleonu.com/what-is-panu/

----

Here, the twelve steps, copied from his site:

1. Eliminate sugar (including fruit juices and sports drinks) and all foods that contain flour.

2. Start eating proper fats: use healthy animal fats or coconut fat to substitute fat calories for carbohydrate calories that formerly came from sugar and flour. Drink whole cream or coconut milk.

3. Eliminate gluten grains. Limit grains like corn and rice, which are nutritionally poor.

4. Eliminate grain and seed derived oils (cooking oils) Cook with Ghee, butter, animal fats, or coconut oil.

5. Favor ruminants like beef, lamb and bison for your meat. Eat eggs and some fish.

6. Make sure you are Vitamin D replete. Get daily midday sun or consider supplementation.

7. Two meals a day is best. Don't graze like a herbivore.

8. Adjust your 6s and 3s. Pastured (grass fed) dairy and grass fed beef or bison has a more optimal 6:3 ratio, more vitamins and CLA. A teaspoon or two of Carlson's fish oil (1-2 g DHA/EPA) daily is good compensatory supplementation if you eat grain-fed beef or no fish.

9. Proper exercise - emphasizing resistance and interval training over long aerobic sessions.

10. Most modern fruit is just a candy bar from a tree. Go easy on bags of sugar like apples. Stick with berries and avoid watermelon which is pure fructose. Eat in moderation.

11. Eliminate legumes.

12. Eliminate all remaining dairy including cheese, (now you are "Orthodox paleolithic").

Hope this is of help to others. It has been of tremendous benefit to me.

Thanks for the paleo nutrition info

I'm glad you were able to add the new forum topic. (We're still sorting out the forum system on this site, so I'm always pleased when something works as expected.)

I've been interested in the paleo way of eating, so this will come in handy for me over the coming months.

So, how does the paleo diet work for you? What kind of results are you seeing? Do you have any before/after observations you can make?

Hello, DH. :) References to Paleo and request for forum edit

Hello, DH. :)

I tried to find a way to post the topic in a category on its own, but couldn't figure out a way, other than in the test forum. As it is, it is a sub-category under another way of eating.

The specific benefits, beyond what I posted in the original post, of keeping a Paleo food plan are reported in many places.

Dr. Harris' site, with the many reader comments and the forum, is one resource to read such reports. Dr. Harris' science and clear way of presenting facts makes his site, in my estimation, the best introduction and reference.

Also, Paleohacks has many reports. Here is the link:

http://paleohacks.com/#axzz14o0cJ7zX

There are also dozens of blogs by those following some version of Paleo eating. If it interests you, the recommended links at Dr. Harris' site are a good place to start.

If you are able to create a new forum on this website for other eating plans, that'd be grand. As it is now, the PaleoNu information looks like a sub-category of something else. Thanks very much.

All the best to you.

Hi back!

I've created a Paleo Nutrition Diets forum topic, and moved this thread under the Paleo topic.

I've also fixed the lowcarbcompatible.com forum set-up to allow site users to create their own forum sub-topics. So you can now open up your own topic under 'Diets' for example. (I won't go into the details of why it was the way it was, let's just say that we're still learning how to administer this forum. :D )

All the best to you.

Same to you! We look forward to hearing about your ongoing dieting success.

Tell-a-friend! We'd like to have more people contributing to the forum!
