My Day
My day began at 7 a.m., so I could complete my Bowflex exercise before I went to have surgery. It took us about an hour and forty five minutes to get to the hospital. We arrived at 10:45 a.m., fifteen minutes before I was scheduled to get there. Since I take the stairs every chance I get, yesterday was no exception. We headed up two flights of stairs and discovered the door was locked and we could not get out. We went up one more flight and could not get out of that door either. We went down all three flights and found out the stairs that we took were for the roof access. Once we found the elevator we were directed to the correct stairway, so we went up to the second floor. I checked in at 11 a.m., and only waited a couple of minutes before they took me back to pre-op and got me ready for surgery. My doctor came in to draw all over my leg and then I saw the anesthesiologist. He had on a Halloween hat with skulls and pumpkins and it was really cute. The anesthesiologist explained everything he was going to do to me and then he said he would see me in the operating room.
When I woke up in the recovery room I was so out of it that I was trying to take the oxygen off of my face. The nurse told me that I needed to leave it on and I finally woke up enough to understand. It took me a while to focus and I kept dozing off. When I was in recovery I began to get nauseous so they gave me some apple juice and two packages of two graham crackers each. Since I don't like sweet drinks, they poured it over ice to help dilute it for me. It was still too sweet so I was only able to take about 3 sips. The nurse offered to get me water instead and I told her that I would prefer it. I was only able to eat half of a graham cracker and brought the one that remained in the package as well as the second package of two home for my daughter.
I asked the nurse what procedure was done and she didn't know. I asked my husband what procedure was done and he said he thought it was the Vnus closure but he wasn't sure. Since I wanted to know, I placed a call to my surgeon so he could tell me. My surgeon called me this afternoon and told me that he used the Vnus closure and I go back to the medical facility on Monday for an ultrasound to see if it worked.
I expected to feel fine today since that is what my research told me. Since I am experiencing more pain than what I read about, I thought it was very possible that he stripped the vein.
My leg is wrapped in an ace bandage and I get to take it off tomorrow so I can take a shower. I am anxious to see what it looks like under the bandage. After my shower I was told to wrap my leg right back up in the bandage, so I will.
My husband and I stopped at KFC/A&W and I ordered a salad w/ranch, double bacon cheeseburger and a bottle of water. I could only eat a couple bites of salad and about 2/3 of the burger, since I was having a hard time swallowing. There was a Wendy's right across the street so I had my husband drive us over so I could get a chocolate frosty for the ride home.
When I got home I was ready for some pain medication. I was supposed to take 3 teaspoons but I took 2 tablespoons on accident. My husband was very concerned about my overdose so I had him make me some bacon to help absorb some of the medication. I was only able to eat 1-1/2 slices and told him it was the best I could do.
Since I am pretty good at learning from my mistakes, I took the prescribed amount this morning and have been taking my pain medication every four to five hours as prescribed.
I got right back on plan today but I was unable to do any exercise. I may be taking a few days off until I get permission from my doctor telling me I get to resume my normal activities.
