2.27.11, Low Carb Diet Journal

I am still seeing smaller numbers on my scale, but I am expecting to see it pop right back up like it usually does. I can feel my body size dropping by the way that my clothes fit, but I have never felt confidence in myself by watching the scale. I have a doctors balance beam scale that measures my weight in quarter pound increments and it appears to be accurate based on my comparison to the ones that I step on at my doctors office. It is only one of the three measurement tools that I use!

Bowflex and Callanetics were on our exercise schedule. I did not get started when I should have so my lunch was postponed until I only had one more workout to do. I was able to get through the beginning of my Callanetics workout but I was unable to get back to it before lunch. My husband rubbed the pork ribs with olive oil and then he seasoned them with fresh rosemary, garlic, salt, pepper, and paprika. He started the barbecue in the morning so our ribs were still slow cooking when I got started on our salads. I rinsed and cut about two cups of romaine lettuce and placed it on my plate. I added three quarters of an avocado, one slice of chopped bacon, two stalks of celery, a third of a cucumber, and a small amount of cheddar-jack shredded cheese before I drizzled three or four tablespoons of our homemade ranch over the top. I had totally forgotten about the one exercise that I had left on the Bowflex and began eating my salad. The ribs were so tender, they were falling off the bones. I was able to eat three of the smaller ribs and when we saw how much we had left, my husband suggested we have barbecue pulled pork sandwiches for lunch the following day. I completed my meal by peeling an orange and splitting it with my husband. After I finished my half, I grabbed one of my homemade dark chocolate almond clusters and enjoyed every single chocolate-nutty bite.

I had forgotten about getting my last workout done on the Bowflex and when my husband reminded me, I finished it up. I should have gotten started on the rest of my Callanetics workout but I got busy and postponed it again. Since we had eaten lunch later than normal, neither one of us was hungry at our usual time, so we put off dinner until later. I was able to get the rest of my Callanetics workout completed and it really is nice to add another hour to my total.

Dinner was leftover ribs and the cold asparagus that we put away the night before. There were three large ribs leftover and I was able to eat one of them with the six asparagus that were also on my plate. I added our homemade mayonnaise to my asparagus and even though our mayo is not as sweet as what I used to eat, I like it. We put the rest of the meat in the container that will become our barbecue pulled pork sandwiches and I was satisfied with another one of my Complementary Meals.

Tea vs. coffee

Teri, I may have missed this, but was there a particular reason why you decided to switch from coffee to tea for your morning start? Just curious. I'm always interested in what you're doing because you are my model for success and I'm trying to "stick with the winners!"

I really appreciate your questions, thank you for asking.

I have been going through menopause ever since I began my journey with CALP and I have always tried to deal with my symptoms without taking supplements. I was having some serious problems with day and night sweats so I desperately began taking Estroven to see if it would help me. The supplements were not helping as much as I hoped and since everything I read said that coffee and chocolate are two of the foods that can aggravate menopause symptoms, I switched to tea. It was not hard for me to make the switch at the time because I had already quit drinking coffee when I had the flu so it was an easy transformation for me to begin drinking tea in the mornings.

I ended up going to the doctor to get a blood test to see what hormones I may be lacking and I found out that I am at the tail end of menopause. I do miss the taste of coffee and I hope to be able to drink it again, but giving it up has helped my menopause symptoms since they practically disappeared when I quit drinking it.

I'm Teri and I am 54 years old. I have been fighting my weight since I was fourteen, dieting my way all the way up to 236 lbs. I started my weight loss program on March 3, 2008, and at that time I was unable to get into the largest pair of jeans I owned, size 18W. I have lost close to 100 pounds, and I now wear a size 4 jeans. My diet and exercise program have me feeling better than I could have ever imagined and I did it without starving or depriving myself in any way.
